Building Hope

Building Hope

So I have been quiet here while beavering away while creating my final piece for my BA in Textiles Practice at Bradford College.
The work is now hanging in the gallery in the College and will be available for viewing later this month as part of the End of Year Show . Details if the show are on my Exhibitions Page .

I wrote in my last post about signifying disruption in a quilt. I then had to think about how to give a more positive messsage - that there are ways to make the word a better place despite the headlines about wars and conflict.

The work is entitled Building Hope and is intended to encourage people to think about how they can make their community more welcoming to those who are feeling threatened and unwanted. I invited people to write on a hexagon actions they could take to make this happen. These are incorporated into the work, healing some of the disruptions in the pattern.

I am still collecting suggestions of actions we can take, and these will form part of the next steps in the project.

It is always difficult to photograph textile art well, so I would encourage people to come to the show in Bradford and see all our work for yourself.
