Sewer, knitter, gardener, cook, wife, mother………

I’m Mary Whitehouse, I live in York and have always been ‘busy’, enjoying crafts, cooking, gardening, and walking on the beach…..

In October 2020 I become a student again, starting a Foundation Degree in Textiles Practice at Bradford School of Art. This course has encouraged me to be more reflective about art and my stitching. I graduated with Distinction in July 2024. I am now working to upgrade my degree to a BA, still at Bradford.

My work as a textile artist aims to raise issues of social justice.

In a previous life I was a physics teacher, and more recently worked in the Science Education Group at the University of York, and was Chair of the Association for Science Education (2018-19)
