Stop arming genocide
In April 2025 I made this piece as a response to attacks on refugee camps in Sudan. It was called Inside pages because beyond the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, other conflicts across teh world continue to happen and get very little coverage. It is too easy for them to drop out of our minds.
In this piece the traditional log cabin quilt block symbolises home, with the ‘home fire’ burning at the centre. A home attacked may just leave a pile of logs. Scraps of Hainsworth felted wools signify warmth of the home, foundation pieced over a news article about attacks on refugee camps.
This war continued and made the headlines again when there were more mass killings and it became known that the Sudanese militia were using British-made kit to commit genocide.
This even made it on to the sports pages, where Barney Ronay asked why there were not protests at the Manchester City match, while the owner of Manchester City Football Club is implicated in the arming of the Sudanese militia.
Back to a stark font all in black for a very dark moment.
